Lifting our Spirits

Flowers are an integral part of the overall landscaping plan at Rancho del Gallo for several reasons. Our primary focus in designing the house plantings was a succession of blooms throughout the summer to provide nectar and pollen for the bees. Being surrounded by pastures rich in alfalfa, clover, dandelions, and mixed herbs and grasses, the bees find plenty of forage in the height of summer. But here in the arid west early and late blooms can be less plentiful. We attempt to fill in the gaps.

Of course, another gift we receive from flowers is they refine our aesthetic sensibilities and literally “lift our spirits.” Who doesn’t feel better surrounded by flowers?

We grow all the traditional “Preparation Plants” for biodynamic preparation making, but we have enhanced their potency through Homeodynamic methods. Each plant is associated with at least one particular planet in our solar system and having the full range of plants contributes to the overall balance within our farm in keeping with the wisdom of “as above, so below.”

The preparation plants and their associations are: Yarrow (Achillea millifolium) - known as 502 and associated with Venus; Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilia) - 503, Mercury; Stinging Nettle (Urtica dioica) - 504, Mars; Oak Bark (Quercus robur) - 505, Moon & Mars; Dandelion (Taraxacum officinalis) - 506, Jupiter; and Valerian (Valeriana officinalis) - 507, Saturn.

Whilst growing plants from seeds produces the strongest and healthiest plants, people often want to get their prep plants established on their farms quickly so they have them to use for preparation making sooner. We do offer the prep plants from time to time either grown from seed in our greenhouse or dug from the fields already established. Our greenhouse has been designed and adapted to enhance the etheric vitality of the plants, and people have reported extraordinary results from the starter plants they received from us. And blessedly, cut flowers are always in abundance here.
